Paulo Lopes was born in Lisbon, Portugal, where he started playing the piano at the age of 6. At the age of 9 he was awarded a scholarship to the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon to study music and the arts. He joined the Conservatoire Nacional de Lisboa at the age of 12 where he had piano tuition from Leonor Leitão-Cadete for several years. He then came to London to continue his studies in music and the arts. He has studied at the Guildhall School of Music with Norman Beedie and with the Spanish pianist Maria Garzón. In 1997 Paulo was admitted as Licentiate, Trinity College London.
He has given various piano recitals throughout the country including two recitals at Hengrave Hall in aid of Amnesty International, at the University of Essex and at Southwark Cathedral. in London. He has given several recitals in the south of France summer concerts and in Holland.
Paulo has won various competitions in regional music festivals, most recently at the Brighton and at the Hatfield Music Festivals. He also teaches the piano privately.
